Pit Bull Owner Guilty In Dog Attack On Mich. Girl
JACKSON (AP) - The owner of pit bulls that mauled a 6-year-old girl last year in Jackson County has been found guilty of keeping dangerous animals that caused serious injury.
Brian Nace was convicted Tuesday in the August 2010 dog attack on Tyah Norris.
Defense lawyer Christopher Dickerson doesn't dispute his client was the owner of the dogs that mauled Tyah or that her injuries were severe.
He says Tyah was trespassing on Nace's property in Blackman Township, where he kept the dogs in a fenced yard marked with warning signs. According to state law, an animal isn't dangerous if it attacks a trespasser.
Assistant Prosecutor Jared Hopkins told the jury a 6-year-old can't knowingly trespass.
The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports Nace will be sentenced on Sept. 22.
