Pilot Dies After Plane Crash At Macomb County Golf Course
RAY TWP.(WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man was killed when his single-engine plane crashed at a golf course in southeastern Michigan.
The crash happened Saturday morning at Wolcott Mill Golf Course. It's in Macomb County's Ray Township, about 25 miles north of Detroit.
Huron-Clinton Metroparks Police Chief George Phifer told The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens that the pilot was the only person on board. He identified the victim as Charles Zichichi of Washington Township, who is believed to have been 77- or 78-years-old.
Authorities say Zichichi departed Ray Community Airport in the Virus 912 aircraft shortly before the crash.
Authorities say he was unresponsive when medical personnel reached him, and he died hours later at a hospital.
Phifer says the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
