Philanthropy Aims To Boost State's Economic Recovery
Michigan has the nation's second-highest unemployment rate and one in every four Michigan residents relies on some form of government assistance. A new national philanthropy known as Michigan Corps wants to change that.
The founders of Michigan Corps want to help Michigan climb out of its economic slump. The organization counts the CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta and Pulitzer Prize winner Jeffrey Eugenides among its founding members.
Founder and CEO Rishi Jaitly says the organization is hoping to recruit thousands of new members who are willing to donate a dollar or more to the effort. One of the local recipients of funding is Bizdom U, based in Detroit. And, the community is invited to nominate organizations to receive funding from Michigan Corps.
