Phil Jackson Joins Pistons In Search For Next Head Coach
AUBURN HILLS (97.1 THE TICKET) - The Detroit Pistons organization has hired Phil Jackson to serve as an adviser in the search for a new head coach.
Jackson will work with owner, Tom Gores and president of basketball operations Joe Dumars.
The Pistons' website notes that Gores and Dumars are looking forward to Jackson's input in the search.
The role appears to be a temporary position within the organization and lists Dumars as the lead on the new coaching hire.
Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced in April that Lawrence Frank would not return as the team's head coach.
"We thank Lawrence for his hard work and dedication, but we feel it is in the best interest of the franchise to make a change at this time," said Dumars. "Decisions like this are never easy and we wish Lawrence well in the future."
Frank, who was named head coach on August 3, 2011, tallied a regular-season record of 54-94 (.365) in two seasons with the Pistons.
Gores told reporters just after buying the team that he was excited about the future for the Detroit Pistons.
"I want Detroit to be an exciting place to be and I think we have the beginnings of that because in Detroit we have some of the best people in the world," said Gores.
Gores told reporters it's not just about the team – he's ready to help in Detroit's comeback.
