Pettigrew's Season-Ending Injury Has Opened The Door For Wright, Ebron

By Danny Cox

Injuries are a common thing in the NFL, but they can have go from one extreme to the other for some players. If an injury occurs, it can mean the end of a hot streak or even a career for some players. Others may see  opportunities due to the unfortunate injuries of those in front of them. Right now, the Detroit Lions are seeing a bit of both.

Brandon Pettigrew's season-ending injury has opened the door for a couple others

Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew has dealt with a number of injuries this season, but his torn left ACL has done him in for the season. No one wants to see an injury happen to anyone, but others need to step up in his absence and it gives them the opportunity to prove their worth as a starter.

Now, Tim Wright and Eric Ebron are going to get more playing time and it's something they've both been preparing for. Each and every week, Wright would get ready, but he's been inactive since Week 8 after starting off the season with eight receptions fro 68 yards and one touchdown.

The Lions may sign another tight end to help, but it's likely that Wright and Ebron will split playing time due to Pettigrew's departure. Ebron is probably going to get more playing time, but it's going to say a lot for both of them to show what they can do as a starter or even just with more reps.

Lions waive former starting right tackle LaAdrian Waddle

On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions made a number of moves and one was quite a difficult one, but it needed to be made. At the beginning of the season, right tackle LaAdrian Waddle was a starter on the offensive line. Now, the undrafted free agent in 2013 is without a team as the Lions have waived him.

Waddle took over the starting right tackle spot last season when Jason Fox and Corey Hilliard went out with injuries. He played well enough to hold onto it and keep the job. In 2014, injuries plagued him and that included a concussion and a season-ending ACL injury. Since then, he's never been quite the same.

This season, Waddle has faded out of the starting spotlight and has been replaced by Michael Ola. He's also been a healthy scratch from the active roster for the past four weeks. It seemed like only a matter of time until a major change, but Waddle being waived is still surprising.
