Person In Custody In Clinton Township Double Murder
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Clinton Township are questioning someone in connection with the brutal murders of a mother and her daughter.
It wasn't immediately clear, however, if the person in custody is a suspect.
Police on Tuesday found the bodies of 46-year-old Tina Gieger and 12-year-old Crissy Gieger inside their home at Parkway Village Apartments on Grange Street, near 16 Mile Road and Harper Avenue in Clinton Township.
The mother and daughter, who are both described as being mentally challenged, were found with numerous stab wounds in what police described as a brutal and bloody murder scene. The stab wounds were caused by what officers termed a "cutting instrument," which may or may not be a knife, The Macomb Daily reported.
Their bodies were first discovered by an apartment manager who was asked to check on the Giegers. Neighbors, who said the duo walked to a nearby 7-Eleven every day, said they became concerned after not seeing the mother daughter pair for several days.
Investigators say there were no signs of forced entry on the apartment.
Reports say the victims knew their killer and that police have a suspect in mind.
"We're trying to establish a motive as to who would have done something like this," Clinton Township Police Chief Fred Posavetz told The Macomb Daily. "It appears that they've been there for a number of days, so we've lost the immediacy of the act. She had no known enemies."
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Clinton Township police at 586-493-7925.
