Permit Suspended For Man With Gun, Body Armor At Theater
GRAND BLANC TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities have suspended a concealed weapon permit for a Flint-area man who wore body armor and possessed a loaded gun while watching the movie "Red 2."
Cassidy Delavergne was removed from Trillium Theater in Grand Blanc Township around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday after someone noticed the vest and gun. He was arrested after flashing a fake Central Intelligence Agency identification badge and telling police that he was a federal agent.
Delavergne isn't charged with a gun crime, but federal authorities have charged him with possessing the phony CIA card.
The FBI said Delavergne was carrying a 9 mm pistol with 34 rounds of ammunition, with an additional 111 rounds of ammo in his car.
A theater spokesperson said Delavergne wasn't threatening anyone, and officials declined to say whether they believe he planned to use the handgun.
Delavergne originally told police he was wearing the body armor and carrying the gun because he just got off work and did not want to leave them in his car. A court filing says Delavergne told an agent he displayed the phony ID to minimize concerns about his gun.
John Potbury, spokesman for the Genesee County prosecutor, says Delavergne's weapon permit is suspended because of the federal case.
Delavergne, who is currently out on an unsecured $5,000 bond, faces up to six months in jail if convicted as charged.
