(CBS DETROIT) - An Ohio man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle Sunday evening on Interstate 75 in Detroit, the Michigan State Police reported.

The accident happened about 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes of I-75, near West Grand Boulevard.

Detroit Regional Communication Center had received multiple calls of a pedestrian walking on the freeway, troopers reported, and one caller said the man was running in the lanes of travel.

Troopers from the Metro South post and Detroit EMS personnel searched the area, and found the man, who was by that time struck by a vehicle, in the left lane. The vehicle driver had left the scene after the crash.

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old man from Twinsburg, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.

Michigan Department of Transportation reported the northbound lanes in that area were closed during the investigation.

Michigan State Police ask that anyone who witnessed or was involved in the crash call the Metro South Post at 734-287-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.
