Pedestrian Hit By Car On 8 Mile Road
DETROIT (WWJ) - A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was hit by a car on 8 Mile Road on Detroit's northwest side.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports the accident happened just after 4 a.m. Thursday when a man in 60s was trying to cross the eastbound lanes of 8 Mile near Dequindre.
Officer Scott Sheets of the Detroit Police Fatal Squad said the pedestrian may have been hard to see.
"From what we can gather at this point, it looks like the victim was wearing all dark clothing as he was crossing. Given the time of night, we are going to be taking that into consideration," said Sheets.
The man was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with serious injuries, although his current condition is unknown.
Sheets said it doesn't appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
"It does look like he was crossing in the area of the crosswalk, but we're still reviewing security video and so forth to find out the exact elements of what happened," he said.
Eight Mile Road was closed at Dequindre for about three hours as police were investigating, but has since reopened.
