Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg Split Up On Power Play
An NHL team's power play will hit rough patches. Even the best ones go cold during an 82-game schedule.
But at the start of a season, it's magnified.
Take the Red Wings.
Through five games, the Wings are 13th with a 16.7 percent success rate (4 for 24).
Last weekend's 2-1 victory over Phoenix was the latest head-scratcher.
Niklas Kronwall scored the winner on a power play. But it was Detroit's first power-play goal after starting 0 for 7.
"We kept shooting the puck and finally it went in," Kronwall said about the game.
Finally.
But when you look at the roster, it shouldn't be getting blanked as often as it is.
