Patient Load Increasing At Free Health Clinic

A Pontiac health clinic is offering free care to patients. And, with the economy continuing to struggle, the waiting room is getting more and more crowded.

WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas reports that the Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic in Pontiac saw 4,400 people in 2009. Clinic patient, Gussie Hale, went there after losing her job and being hospitalized.

"I nearly lost my life then," Hale told Vickie. "It's so many things I want to do for myself and my family and it's so emotional to talk about because I didn't know that a place like this existed."

Dana Burnstein says the clinic is not just seeing the indigent. "It's everybody. It's people from all over Oakland County. It's Bloomfield Hills. It's Birmingham. It's Farmington Hills."

The clinic needs donations and volunteer doctors and dentists to help meet the demand.
