There is a legitimate reason no starting pitcher has been named Most Valuable Player in either league since Roger Clemens in 1986.

Nor a starting pitcher been in the Top 10 of American League MVP voting since Minnesota's Johan Santana in 2006 (he placed seventh). Or in the Top 3 in the AL since Boston's Pedro Martinez was second in 1999.

It's because the argument against it is so compelling.
