Pat Caputo: There Shouldn't Be Any Complaints In This State About NCAA Tournament Bids
Complaints? There shouldn't be any among this state's college basketball fans.
On selection Sunday, everybody who remotely deserved to get into the NCAA tournament got in from this state.
As for the seeds, it pretty much played out as anticipated for Oakland University, Michigan and Michigan State.
As long as Oakland is in the Summit League, even dominating it to the degree it did this season (20-1 record counting the postseason tourney), getting better than a 13th seed in the NCAA tournament will be difficult. Unless the Golden Grizzlies pull off multiple victories against highly-regarded teams from the so-called power conferences, it's just the way it is.
Oakland had one such victory this season, over Tennessee, which was ranked seventh nationally at the time, but has since dropped out of the Top 25 — although it did get into the NCAA tournament and will play Michigan.
