When the Tigers shocked the world this week by agreeing to terms with Prince Fielder on a nine-year, $214 million contract, it raised more questions than provided answers.
Who was going to play first base, reigning American League batting champion Miguel Cabrera or Fielder? Could the Tigers possibly move Cabrera to third base, where he performed so poorly his initial season with the club in 2008 he couldn't be shifted to first base fast enough?
Because of the presence of Cabrera, the Tigers were not considered among the teams interested in Fielder. Recently, on the club's media annual caravan, general manager Dave Dombrowski said Fielder didn't appear to be a fit. What changed?
