Pat Caputo: Prince Fielder High-Risk, High-Reward Investment For Tigers
DETROIT - Sure, the Tigers struck the jackpot by reportedly agreeing to terms with Prince Fielder on a nine-year, $214 million contract.
But it should come with fair warning: There are complications.
With Fielder and Miguel Cabrera in the middle of their lineup, the Tigers have arguably the two best hitters in baseball. They ranked first (Cabrera) and fourth (Fielder) in OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) in Major League Baseball last season. Both players are in their prime. Fielder will turn 28 in May, Cabrera 29 in April.
