Pat Caputo: Perception Outpaces Results For Detroit Lions
The Lions' progress since going 0-16, on paper, is increasingly being deemed impressive.
They finally have a so-called franchise quarterback in Matthew Stafford. They have strengthened the defensive line with recent draft picks such as Ndamukong Suh and Sammie Hill, and veteran acquisitions such as Kyle Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams. They have drafted other potential long-term quality starters such as safety Louis Delmas, linebackers DeAndre Levy and Zack Follett, tight end Brandon Pettigrew and super speedy running back Jahvid Best.
Throw that in with a potentially great receiver in Calvin Johnson, and veteran pickups such as wide receiver Nate Burleson, tight end Tony Scheffler and guard Rob Sims — and the Lions start to look, dare we say, promising.
