Pat Caputo: Michigan State Will Own College Football In This State Unless Michigan Takes It Back

If there is any doubt whether Michigan State has a better football program than Michigan, there shouldn't be.

The facts are overwhelmingly in MSU's favor heading to the 2011 season.

The Spartans have won the last three meetings between the teams, two of them decidedly in Ann Arbor.

Michigan State was 11-1 during the regular season in 2010 and shared the Big Ten championship. Mark Dantonio is an established head coach at his current school. There is nothing he must rebuild at this stage - in terms of talent or implementing a system.

Brady Hoke inherited a mess from Rich Rodriguez. The Spartans won just one less Big Ten game (seven) last year than Michigan has won in the past three years (eight).

What is yet to be determined is whether what the Spartans have accomplished the last three years, in comparison to what Michigan has not done, is an aberration or a trend.

Hoke has gotten off to an impressive start at Michigan. It is obvious he understands the environment he must present at Michigan - and it isn't of whining and excuse-making, which were the modus operandi of the Wolverines under Rodriguez.
