Pat Caputo: It's Really Simple - Sharks Just Better Than Red Wings

If we have heard it once, we have heard it a thousand times.

Capturing the Stanley Cup championship might be the most difficult task in professional team sports.

It's four best-of-seven series — 16 games of athletic attrition in the most rugged of sports.

It's never easy. We've sure been subjected to more proof of it in this town during the Western Conference semifinals, haven't we?

The Red Wings' 4-3 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks in Game 3 Wednesday night was a reminder nothing is a given in the playoffs. Even a 3-2 lead at home with just a little more than four minutes remaining in the third period.

The Red Wings are now down three games to none in the series. Only three teams have ever rallied from such a deficit in Stanley Cup playoff history.

"It's a tough pill to swallow, especially true when you're down 2-0 already," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said.

The Red Wings didn't take advantage of a power-play opportunity in the overtime. Devin Setoguchi stuck it to the Red Wings not long afterward, scoring the game-winning goal for the Sharks.
