The NFL is a doubled-edged sword.

It's the most popular professional sports league in this country - by far - and represents what is easily this nation's favorite sport overall.

And it's uniquely American. The rest of the world loves futbol. That ain't "football."

Yet, there are times when the NFL is absolutely comical in its incompetence. It might as well be FIFA.

The so-called "tuck rule" in the NFL playoffs following the 2001 season literally ruined the Oakland Raiders, and made Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Sunday, the "continuing process of the catch," or whatever hokum the NFL is trying to sell as to why Calvin Johnson's apparent game-winning touchdown against the Chicago Bears somehow wasn't a reception, could have major aftershocks felt for a long time.
