Pat Caputo: Cheating Does Pay When It Comes To Athletics
The idea that cheating doesn't pay is a noble one, but it's not necessarily true.
Yeah, even when caught.
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is the latest big-time coach to be brought down by scandal, but look at all the Buckeyes accomplished during his tenure. They won the national championship, the only Big Ten school to do so outright since 1968. They captured six straight Big Ten titles.
Tressel made a mockery of this state's Big Ten schools, compiling a 15-1 record against Michigan and Michigan State.
Don't say he didn't get away with it. He did. For a decade.
If the NCAA and the Big Ten vacate any Ohio State titles, it won't matter. Those experiences happened. Those wronged won't be able to re-live them. Example: Michigan doesn't get a perfect record and a spot in the BCS title game in 2006. Too late.
