The tale of the Tigers in 2011 has not contained one central character.

It hasn't been Justin Verlander, although there is reasonable expectation he will be the first starting pitcher in a quarter of a century to be named American League Most Valuable Player.

It isn't just about Miguel Cabrera, another potential Hall of Famer some day, who posted MVP-caliber numbers of his own this season, winning the AL batting title.

Or Jose Valverde, who manages to close out every key opportunity.

It's also about lesser players. Some who have come through in areas they may have failed earlier this season.
