Pastors Become Link For Homeowners Facing Foreclosure
DETROIT (WWJ) - The state of Michigan and local clergy are urging those facing foreclosure to take advantage of available resources.
Rev. John Harvey is pastor of Serenity Christian Church in Hazel Park. Like other members of the clergy - he has found that homeowners will often keep secret the fact that they've been hit with a foreclosure notice.
"Because of the embarrassment and the shame associated with it - I mean, there were market forces at work," Harvey told WWJ's Pat Sweeting.
Since a pastor is one of the few people with whom a homeowner trusts to discuss that problem - the Michigan State Housing Development Authority is reaching out to clerics to help those individuals to it's Step-Forward Michigan programs.
