Parole Absconder, Wanted Man Nabbed After Police Chase Ends In Crash
OAK PARK (WWJ) - Charges are pending against two people captured after a police chase from Ferndale into Highland Park.
The whole thing unfolded around 5:20 p.m. Thursday when Michigan State Police troopers attempted to stop a 2004 Cadillac for a traffic violation at 9 Mile Road and Central Street in Ferndale.
The Cadillac failed to stop and troopers, who were in a marked car with sirens activated, initiated a chase. The suspect continued driving on 9 Mile Road and then turned onto Woodward Avenue.
As the Cadillac was travelling southbound, the driver failed to stop for a red light and was struck by a Ford Escape at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Davison Freeway in Highland Park. After the collision the Cadillac drove behind a business where the driver crashed again and was immediately taken into custody.
A passenger in the Cadillac jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran from the scene on foot. He was taken into custody several minutes later along Waverly Street nearby.
Police say both suspects up in custody less than 10 minutes after the situation began.
Police say the driver of the Cadillac, a 44-year-old Detroit man, was a parole absconder for several felonies, including breaking and entering and assault with a dangerous weapon. His passenger, a 45-year-old Detroit man, had multiple misdemeanor warrants from different agencies, police said.
The driver of the Escape, a 23-year-old Detroit woman, was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation. It wasn't immediately clear what charges the men, whose names were not released, might be facing.
