Parents Arrested In Death Of 2-Month Old Child
WESTLAND (WWJ) - The parents of a 2-month old Westland boy have been arrested in connection with the child's death.
It didn't take long for police to label the death of this baby as "suspicious," as they questioned the 18-year-old mother and 22-year-old father the past two days.
Early Monday morning, police and EMS were called to a home in the Westland Meadows mobile home park to find the 2-month old boy unresponsive. The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Then Tuesday, an autopsy conducted by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office deemed the death a homicide, saying the child died of asphyxia and blunt-force trauma to the chest.
A 2-month old twin to the deceased infant and another child, a 2-year-old daughter of the father, were removed from the home by Child Protective Services.
Further details of the investigation, as well as the suspects' names, are being withheld until formal charges are filed, possibly as early as Wednesday afternoon. Police said they were working with the county prosecutor's office to determine charges.
