Paramita Sound Isn't Just A New Vinyl Record Store In Detroit
A two-story retail/residential space is now home to a record store with it's focus on building relationships with the community and being part of the revitalization of the historic West Village.
Paramita Sound is a vinyl record store and music label located at 1417 Van Dyke in Detroit. They were selected among submitted business plans by Practice Space, a community revitalization team, to rent and set up shop in the renovated space.
Paramita Sound owner Andrey Douthard was born and raised in Detroit. He says Paramita is, "the cultivation of perfection or always working toward perfection."
What's in store for patrons? "We sell a mixture of new re-issued and some used vinyl as well as cassette tapes," said Douthard.
In addition there are listening stations, lounge areas and offerings from local breweries.
It's More Like A Relationship Business
They're trying to be a little more than the normal record store. Douthard explains, "We wanted to bring something to this neighborhood and to really be a part of this community -- not take anything away from it, but really just add to the value that we think it already has."
Why Vinyl?
"... it's an engaging format. You have to grab it touch it. When you put it on a record you can't just leave it and walk away." But it's also about bringing old and new music fans together. Douthard said, "You can find a common ground in a medium. I've had 17 year old girls that come in here with their father because they're looking for ways to connect."
Paramita Sound also works exclusively with local artists to foster new music as an independent record label.
