Owner Pleads Not Guilty In Dog Attack
A 31-year-old woman was arraigned in Warren District Court Thursday on charges connected with a pit bull attack on a Detroit boy.
Jenny Angel of Warren pleaded not guilty to harboring a dangerous animal, causing serious injury, after police say her dog escaped from her yard and mauled 8-year old Khalil Rocks.
The boy was attacked by Angel's dog while playing in a relative's backyard earlier this month.
His mother, Dionna, tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that her son was badly hurt.
"It was both legs, one was mauled completely to where it'll be damaged for a long time. We don't know if he's going to have to have any rehabilitation on it or not. He's walking but he's walking like he should. He's walking with a limp. He won't let it slip down on the ground yet," she said.
Dionna said her son has been having nightmares since the attack and will be "scared for life." She said she believes people need to pay better attention to laws such as the ordinance in Warren that pertains to owning vicious dogs.
"I don't want nobody to go to jail. I don't want to see her go to jail over it. But, at the same time, I think somebody deserves to be punished," she said.
If convicted, Angel faces up to four years in prison.
