Back when I was 12 years old, and in seventh grade, I ran track.
I ran the 200 meters at our big middle school track meet at Dakota High School. I was cocky and had a big lead -- or so I thought.
I powered it down near the end of the race and ended up being tied for first. I wasn't pleased.
Tanguy Pepiot, an Oregon senior, thought he had the 3000 meter steeplechase won Saturday. And just like me, Pepiot decided to start celebrating prematurely.
Washington's Meron Simon came from behind, to Pepiot's surprise.
See, this is why you always have to run hard, even at the finish.
