Ordinance Regulating Detroit Marijuana Dispensaries Set For Introduction
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit City Council member says he plans to soon introduce an ordinance regulating medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
Council member James Tate says he hopes to put the measure, which is in draft form, before the rest of the City Council next week. The ordinance would require licensing for the dispensaries and say where they can be located in relation to parks, schools, churches and adult entertainment.

A committee was formed last year to work on the ordinance, and includes building officials and representation from the city's police department and planning commission. Tate says there aren't currently regulations for the dispensaries, and that officials want to ensure safe access to those who need the medication.
"It's not about being against it. It's about making sure that we're able to regulate it in a way that ensures the best quality of life for the residents who live in that area," Tate told WWJ earlier this year.
Current and future dispensaries would be subject to the ordinance.
