"Operation Verify" Underway For Sex Offender Registry
DETROIT (WWJ) - The state's annual sweep of sex offender registry scofflaws is underway. WWJ Newradio's Paul Snider reports that "Operation Verify" runs through October 28.
Law enforcement agencies from all over Michigan will join forces to find those who are violating the Sex Offenders Registration Act, which requires offenders to periodically report their address to the nearest local, county or state police agency.
Failure to do so could result in a felony of up to four years. Michigan has nearly 22,000 registered sex offenders.
