Open Meetings Look For Input On Passenger Rail Train Routes
DETROIT (WWJ) - Your input is wanted about proposed new passenger rail service in Michigan connecting Detroit to Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Holland.
Liz Treutel, project manager for the rail study, says Monday night's meeting is at 6 o'clock at the Rapid in Grand Rapids.
"We are looking at three different possible routes to connect those four cities," said Treutel. "There actually used to be passenger rail service back before 1971 when the whole passenger rail system in the United States was reconfigured. So, we are really looking at re-establishing service on existing lines that are used for freight right now."
She says there will be public meetings in Detroit and Ann Arbor later this month.
"These public meetings are about informing the public about the study that we are doing but more importantly getting feedback from them to learn about what they want to see in a potential rail line," she said.
A public meeting will be held this Thursday night at the U of M Center on Woodward in Detroit.
