Online Tech Adds Fourth Data Center In Michigan
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- The Ann Arbor-based data center operator Online Tech Inc. announced it would open a new data center in Westland, a $10 million investment that will create 15 jobs.
The new data center for secure, compliant hosting will bring Online Tech's data center footprint to 100,000 square feet.
According to 451 Research, Online Tech is the market leader in the Detroit Metro with the top market share in multi-tenant data center space in Michigan.
Online Tech's fourth data center will add 34,000 square feet of data center space to its footprint.
The company currently operates two data centers in Ann Arbor and another in Flint.
Online Tech is renovating and building out a network switching center formerly occupied by Sprint-Nextel.
According to Online Tech's Web site, the new data center features three 500-kilowatt diesel generators, three 2,000-gallon diesel storage tanks, a 2,500-kVA transformer utility feed, UPS battery backup systems, redundant ISPs with 10-gigabit-per-second data capacity on demand, sophisticated fire suppression and sprinkler systems, biometric two-stage access control, around-the-clock site surveillance, 400 tons of cooling capacity, and a separate secured room with no customer access for power equipment, network infrastructure and network operations equipment.

Carlson, a national data center design and construction firm based in Irvine, Calif., http://www.carlson-dc.com/, has been contracted to manage the build out of Online Tech's new Metro Detroit data center.
Construction will include a complete upgrade of the building's power, cooling systems, and front office space.
Online Tech will also maintain its commitment to secure and compliant hosting with independent compliance attestations and audits for the new data center, including HIPAA, PCI, SSAE-16, SOC-2 and Safe Harbor standards.
The new data center is expected to be complete and ready for occupancy in the second quarter of 2014.
