OJ Simpson Book 'If I Did It' For Sale At $250K
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Remember OJ Simpson's book "If I Did It" that was deep-sixed before it hit publication in 2006?
It's back.
Someone in Arizona posted a copy of the book on eBay, offering it for sale at $250,000. See the listing HERE.
"Because of intense public criticism largely due to the perception that Simpson was trying to profit from the two deaths for which his civil suit verdict had found him liable, the original publication and release of the book and the related television interview were canceled by News Corporation though a total of 400,000 physical copies of the original book were printed," the listing explains.
It goes on to say all copies of the book were "pulped," or destroyed -- except for one.
And this is allegedly it.
"You will read, for the first time ever, a bone-chilling account of the night of the murders," the dust jacked of the book promises. Chapters have titles including "So Happy Together," and "Things Fall Apart."
In the first person, Simpson allegedly wrote in the book: "I was standing in Nicole's courtyard, in the dark, listening to the loud, rhythmic, accelerated beating of my own heart. I put my left hand to my heart and my shirt felt strangely wet."
Simpson was famously tried and declared innocent in the murder of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in a 1995 case that drew international attention. Simpson said he would dedicate his life to the hunt for the "real killer," later wrote the ill-fated book and then ended up in prison in 2007 on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, related to him taking sports memorabilia from a hotel room that he claimed had been stolen from him.
