Ohio Judge Sentences Mich. Man In Corpse Abuse Case
TOLEDO (WWJ/AP) - An Ohio judge has sentenced a Michigan man to one year in prison after he was found guilty of sexually abusing a dead woman's body when he worked at a funeral home.
Lucas County Judge Stacy Cook sentenced 57-year-old Lawrence Clement of Temperance, Mich., to one year in prison after he was convicted of sexually abusing a corpse. He pleaded no contest last month.
Clement was indicted in March and fired from H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home in Toledo after he was found in a compromising position with the corpse of a 51-year-old Brenda Shular-Cameron, who died of multiple organ failure.
Cook said at the Tuesday sentencing that Clement abused his position of trust, The Toledo Blade reported.
"This was sickening and appalling and will make everyone in this community think twice about putting their family members in the care of a funeral home," the judge said. " … You are a grown man who made a disgusting choice."
A message left for Clement's attorney was not immediately returned.
