Officials Suspect Prisoner Of Homicide After Cellmate Found Dead
TITTABAWASSEE TWP. Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Michigan officials say a 67-year-old inmate at the Saginaw Correctional Facility has been found dead in an apparent homicide.
Theodore Dyer died Wednesday in Tittabawassee Township, near Saginaw, although officials have not released his cause of death.
A Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman said authorities believe Dyer's cellmate killed him. The cellmate, who was not named, has since been transferred to a higher security setting.
Dyer was sentenced in January to serve 25-50 years in prison for first-degree criminal sexual conduct. His death is the third violent incident reported at the facility in October, according to The Saginaw News.
An inmate attacked a corrections officer with a padlock inside a sock during a shift change on Oct. 17. The officer reportedly suffered a fractured skull and a punctured lung. Two days later, a fight broke out between several inmates in which one man was stabbed. The incident occurred in the same area where the corrections officer was attacked.
