Officials: Brawl At Wrestling Meet Leads To Arrest
UNIVERSITY CENTER (WWJ/AP) - Officials say a brawl involving referees and spectators during a weekend youth wrestling meet in Michigan led to one arrest.
The incident happened last week at Saginaw Valley State University during a finals tournament for the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association.
School officials say one man was arrested for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident. The man's name wasn't released.
Association referee Eric Polidan said the man was standing next to the mat cheering, wouldn't sit in the stands and started swearing.
"We told him to leave the building and he started clenching his fists and said he was going to kill us," Polidan told Mlive.com.
The man pushed another referee before being subdued, Polidan said. An unidentified man suffered a broken arm during the melee, officials said.
The event was at the Ryder Center at the school, about 85 miles northwest of Detroit. The association offers competitive wrestling for children ages 5 to 14.
