Officers Zap Alleged Flint Serial Killer In Jail
A sheriff says jail officers had to use a stun gun to subdue a man accused of a series of fatal stabbings in Flint. Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell says Elias Abuelazam tried to punch a sergeant while he was unshackled and outside his cell Wednesday night.
Pickell said five deputies rushed to the area to assist.
"The Sergeant ducked, Abuelazam missed. With that, about three, or I think it was four other deputies started to grab him. There as a struggle. He's a big guy, 6'5'', 280 [pounds], very strong," Pickell said.
"Punches were thrown and they were finally able to get him down on the ground where they could control him better, off of his feet," he said.
Pickell said Abuelazam's face was swollen but he wasn't seriously hurt. Two of the deputies also suffered slight injuries.
The Israeli citizen is in custody in the deaths of three men who were fatally stabbed in and around Flint last summer. He's charged in five cases of attempted murder.
Abuelazam also is charged with attempted murder in Toledo, Ohio, and is suspected in attacks in Leesburg, Va., where he once lived.
