Officer Fatally Shoots Man Who Brandished Guns
LAWTON (AP)- Authorities say a police officer has fatally shot a 34-year-old man who brandished a handgun and assault rifle outside a house.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Michael Adams of Galesburg was shot around 3 a.m. Wednesday in Lawton, about 55 miles south of Grand Rapids. Police say they don't believe Adams fired any shots.
Authorities say the shooting happened after a Lawton police officer tried to stop a vehicle that had sparks coming from underneath.
Police say the officer wasn't injured and three people in the vehicle weren't hurt. Michigan State Police Inspector Tracey McAndrew said Adams told them three before the shooting that he wasn't going back to jail.
Police say Adams was wanted for failing to appear in court on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
