Off-Duty Detroit Cop Fatally Shoots Man On Thanksgiving
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say one of their own was involved in a fatal shooting early Thanksgiving morning.
The shooting happened just after 2:45 a.m. Thursday at a gas station near 7 Mile Road and Pierson Street on the city's northwest side.
According to police, an off-duty officer was at the gas station when an argument broke out between a woman and her boyfriend.
The officer approached the couple, offering assistance, and that's when the boyfriend produced a weapon and opened fire, according to police. The officer then drew his weapon and fired back at the man, delivering a fatal shot.
The officer, who was also shot, was transported to a local hospital where he was last listed in temporary serious condition.
Names of those involved were not released, although the officer is described as a nine-year veteran of the force.
Police, who would not comment further on the situation, said internal affairs is currently investigating the incident.
