Off-Duty Cop Shoots At Attempted Carjackers
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) An off-duty Detroit police officer fended off a trio of would-be carjackers Monday night.
Police said the victim was getting out of his car at 11:50 p.m. Monday in the 15400 block of St. Marys in Detroit when a sports utility vehicle with three people inside drove up and blocked his pathway.
A male suspect exited the vehicle, armed, and demanded the victim's keys, police said. The 41-year-old victim produced his weapon and fired shots, police said.
The suspect ran, and the other suspects escaped in the car.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers received information that a black male, aged 19, matching the description of the suspect involved in the attempted carjacking of the victim, was at a local hospital being treated for a gunshot wound.
The suspect is currently listed in critical condition, and is in police custody.
