Oakland County To Test Outdoor Warning System Wednesday
UPDATE: County officials say Wednesday's scheduled test has been canceled until further notice.
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - If you hear emergency weather warning sirens in Oakland County Wednesday afternoon, don't panic.
Officials say they will be conducting a special test of the county's Outdoor Warning System at 1 p.m. on April 10.
The county has 252 sirens, which are used to alert people working or playing outdoors. The test is done to raise citizens' awareness level and offer schools and businesses an opportunity to test their internal disaster plans during normal business hours.
A siren's blare can be heard for approximately one mile.
Residents are asked to refrain from calling 911 or their local police and fire departments during the testing period to report hearing the siren.
