Oakland County Helps 'Undeck The Halls' With Christmas Tree Recycling
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - If you're anxious to take down your Christmas decorations already, Oakland County is offering a place to toss your tree.
The county's parks and recreation department has 11 park locations to recycle Christmas trees free of charge. Tree recycling takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 26 through Jan. 13
All decorations, plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed from trees prior to arrival. Large quantities from commercial lots will not be accepted. The program is self-service; assistance in removing trees from vehicles is unavailable.
The parks system processes the trees to make compost and wood chips, which will be available to the public in 2013, free of charge. For more information, contact 248-858-0906.
