Oakland Christian School Striving For Pepsi Refresh Prize
The students of Oakland Christian School of Auburn Hills are spreading the word about their selection as one of the schools vying for a $50,000 prize from Pepsi as part of the soft drink company's "Pepsi Refresh Project."
The competition, which requires the school to obtain votes, has joined up with five other area Christian schools -- Franklin Road Christian of Novi, Macomb Christian of Warren, Parkway Christian of Sterling Heights, Southfield Christian of Southfield, and Washtenaw Christian of Saline. If they win, they'll use the proceeds to install a new playscape at Central Detroit Christian at 8840 Second Ave. in Detroit.
The members of the senior class of each school will go to Central Detroit Christian on Thursday, Sept. 23 to prepare the site. Voting runs through Sept. 30.

"If everyone in the metropolitan Detroit area can vote for our project, we'll be able to do something terrific for Central Detroit Christian School and its surrounding area," said Randy Speck, superintendent, Oakland Christian Schools.
Speck conceived of the plan to build a coalition of Christian Schools to increase the impact of Detroit Servathon 2010, the day of community service in the area.
