Oakland 5, Tigers 3

OAKLAND, Calif. (WWJ/AP) - A day after clinching the AL Central division, the Detroit Tigers fall to the Oakland Athletics 5-3 on Saturday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers staged a late rally but fell short after scoring two in the ninth inning.

Gio Gonzalez pitched seven innings for his 14th win and Oakland turned three double plays in the first five innings as the Athletics beat Detroit.

Coco Crisp drove in the deciding run with an RBI single over the head of shortstop Jhonny Peralta in the second inning while Josh Willingham singled twice and scored for Oakland.

The A's won for only the second time in five games, both coming in this series with the Tigers.

Magglio Ordonez had three hits and scored the only run for Detroit. A day after capturing their first division title in nearly a quarter-century, the Tigers had no problem getting men on base but came up short most of the afternoon.
