Numerous Accidents Blamed On Icy Road Conditions
DETROIT (WWJ) - Numerous accidents were reported after the major snow storm, as drivers encountered icy patches.
WWJ's John Bailey says Southeast Michigan is likely dealing with a melting and re-freeze situation that's causing slick conditions on several local freeways.
On I-94 Eastbound, before Cadieux, a spin-out accident was taking up the left and center lane as the afternoon rush began, causing backups all the way to the downtown Detroit interchange.
Bailey says it was also the melt and re-freeze that likely added to problems Thursday along I-75 before 8 Mile Road. Eight cars were involved in that accident, leaving only one lane open for vehicles to get by.
Earlier Thursday, one woman was seriously injured when her husband flipped their car while changing into a slippery lane on southbound I-275 at M-14. Police say snow and ice piled up guard rail caused their Ford Escape to roll over. (More on this story).
Police say road conditions and speed were factors in another Thursday morning crash that killed three people along US-223 in Monroe County. (More on this story).
