Novi Resident Feeling Powerless After Windy Weather
NOVI (WWJ) - Strong winds have left thousands of homes and businesses in the dark.
One of those losing power in Oakland County is WWJ'S own Beth Fisher.
Making her way by candlelight and putting make-up on in the morning by flashlight, Fisher starts her day in a powerless house in Novi.
The garage door needed to be opened manually because it's electric and Fisher makes her way to work leaving husband, Wall Street Business Editor, Ed Coury to fend for himself, the kids and dog.
"It's all in the planning and I suggest anyone who is having problems make sure you move to an area where there is a coffee shop within two miles," said Coury. "That's where I'm heading today with my laptop for wifi -- that's how you survive."
Coury did discover that the household was out of batteries for the lantern - which could mean a stop at the hardware store in addition to the coffee shop.
As of Sunday morning, DTE Energy spokesman Scott Simon says there were about 92,000 customers without power, mainly in Oakland and Wayne counties, as well as the Thumb area. Simon says there's no word at this point on when service will be restored because it's too dangerous for the linemen to climb the poles.
Simon cautions that if you see one, stay at least 20 feet away and call DTE immediately at 1-800-477-4747.
