Northern Resorts Don't See Gas Prices Stopping Travel
DETROIT (WWJ) - Traveling up North is on the minds of many as Memorial Day gets closer and closer.
The resorts will be busy and it appears the hotel businesses are beginning to rebound from the recession.
But will gas prices hurt the resort business this year? Grand Traverse Resort Spokesman Tom McGee says they're expecting to see the crowds:
"If you think about it, someone that's driving up from Detroit, and coming up (North) that extra dollar a gallon, is it going to be...is it going to be $50 dollars more for the trip, is it going to be $100 dollars more for the trip? Overall, that may be a pretty insignificant number," says McGee.
McGee says the industry over the last several years has created several new incentives to encourage guests to visit.
He says even though they are all inclusive they may offer an extra night or a special round of golf.
