No Tailgating Allowed At Super Bowl; Access Super-Limited

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Add another item to the list of reasons the Super Bowl is unlike any other game. Super Bowl Committee CEO Al Kelly announced there will be no tailgating permitted before the year's biggest game.
"You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said, according to ESPN. "And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you're not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it'll all be watched very carefully."
Fewer than 13,000 parking spots will be available for fans attending the game at MetLife Stadium, which has an official capacity of 82,566. Parking one's vehicle is one of those coveted spaces is one of just three ways to get to the stadium.
Fans can ride Fan Express charter buses for $51, or they can ride the New Jersey Transit. Individuals may not be dropped off at the stadium by individual vehicles, and parking farther away and walking is not an option either.
Kelly explained that a large security perimeter needed for the event is the reason for the pared-down parking options. He also said fans will be screened twice - at the train station and at the stadium.
