No Leads In Murder Of High School Football Player

DETROIT (WWJ) - A reward is being offered as Detroit Police look for clues in the murder of a high school football player.

Police said 18-year-old Allantae Powell was dressed in his Osborn High School football uniform when he was fatally shot on the night of August 24.

It happened at the intersection of Pembrooke and Pinehurst Streets on Detroit's west side.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan president John Broad said Powell was a good kid, with big dreams for his future.

"Allantae had attended football practice earlier and visited his pastor at People's Church of Holiness," said Broad, at a news conference Thursday.

"He had dreams of becoming a college football player and had been talking with both Northwestern and Minnesota universities," Broad said.

Police are unsure if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle. There are no suspects, and Powell's family is asking any witnesses to please speak up.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit Police or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-SPEAK UP. You can also text your tip to CRIMES (274637). A $2,500 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
