No Insurance, Fire Destroys Home Of Grosse Pointe Park Woman

GROSSE POINTE PARK (WWJ) - A Grosse Pointe Park woman and her son are homeless after a fire engulfs their part of a duplex.

Fire officials say they believe the blaze on Lakepointe Street near Jefferson was caused by careless smoking.

ShirleyVaughn tells WWJ's Beth Fisher that she and her son were not home at the time.

"I just thank God that me and my son weren't ... we had just left home and I was headed to church and he was just getting off work," said Vaughn."I just thank God we weren't in there."

Vaughn says she doesn't have insurance, and isn't sure what to do.

Officials say the fire started in the other half of the duplex.
