No Cat Left Behind: Humane Society Offers FREE Cat Adoptions
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - The Humane Society of Huron Valley hopes that families who have been waiting to adopt a cat will head over to the shelter, located in Ann Arbor this weekend, and adopt a friendly feline friend.
All adult cats over 5-months-old will be available for a FREE adoption, Nov. 8 through Nov. 10, beginning at 11 a.m. each day.
Marketing Director Deb Kern, said the society is seeing an increase of cats being brought to the shelter now that the weather is getting colder.
"Some cats can survive quite well outside, but others have been recently abandoned and may be sick or hurt. The cold puts them in greater peril and they need our help now," Kern said in a statement. "This event will ensure we can give them the safety, warmth, and care they need and to find them the loving homes they deserve."
Every cat ready for adoption has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia, given flea preventative and given a microchip I.D. Those wishing to adopt will also receive a discount for the new pet's first initial health exam at the HSHV Veterinary Clinic.
People looking to see which cats are available can visit www.hshv.org and view descriptions and photos of all the cats. The site will be updated as animals are adopted or made available.
"We've heard some people say that free adoptions lead to animals going into homes where they are not cared for properly. But there have been multiple studies proving that waiving adoption fees does not bring in unsavory adopters," Kern said.
"Plus, we meet with every family to discuss the real costs of caring for a pet and we always do our best to match the family with a cat that will fit into their home and lifestyle. This kind of adoption event is a real win/win for cats and the lucky family who gets a new loving companion," she added.
